You should take a look at MarkdownPad ( http://markdownpad.com/ ), its a full WPF 4.0 application, that looks like any other windows application.

EDIT: You could also check http://www.frenchfrysoftware.com We tried to develop a WPF/.NET 4 application that integrates as much as possible in Windows. UI is inpired by Microsoft applications, and a bit (a lot?) of thinking about UX 🙂

Its a bit of a shameless plug, but hopefully makes a good example! My team and I created a demo app for a Scientific WPF Charting Component which is used by developers to discover features of the component.

The application uses .NET 4.0, a WPF Window, MVVM, Unity, Reactive Extensions (RX), Task Parallel Library (TPL), WPF Animations and has a custom XAML theme (UX). It integrates with SciCharts WPF Charting Controls and packages 100+ demos for 2D and 3D charts.

We incorporated animation effects including blur background into the application, which are triggered as behaviours e.g. on change of a property in a ViewModel animations are triggered, backgrounds are blurred. The application packages source-code which can be viewed in browser with syntax highlighting or exported to Visual Studio solution.

Weve included a search engine which indexes all the examples and allows you to search for example title, description or the source-code with relevant word highlighting. Oh we also included feedback and usage tracking via Rest HTTP services.

Third party open source packages include MahApps.Metro plus our own custom styles, System.Reactive.Core, RestSharp, as well as our own custom presentation libraries to assist with animation & parallism.

I cant say animations are 100% glitch free (such is the way with WPF) but we have done a considerable amount of work to keep the UI thread lean and, we hope … its quite an impressive example of a WPF Application!

The full source-code for the SciChart WPF Examples is available as part of the Installer at www.scichart.com/downloads , so you can browse it and see how we put it together.

Let me start of by saying that I am the Product Marketing Manger at Progress (Telerik) for Desktop UI, so my suggestion might seem biased.

There have been very good examples of applications build entirely on WPF in the thread already, however you can check out some great component demos for WPF controls from Telerik here: Controls Demo and SDK Sample Browser

I think these can be useful as a reference point and ideas of what can be achieved with WPF.

Cheers,

Dobrin
