Brown gives students the freedom to direct their education

Offering approximately 2,000 courses each year in more than 40 academic departments , Brown attracts, challenges, and cultivates independent thinkers with the power and drive to create personally meaningful lives.

Undergraduates at Brown are responsible for designing individualized programs of study across multiple departments. A strong advising network helps students engage fully with the Brown curriculum .

Brown’s Graduate School offers 51 doctoral programs and 28 master’s programs, including those of the School of Engineering , the School of Public Health , and the School of Professional Studies . The Warren Alpert Medical School awards some 90 medical degrees per year, and, along with its 7 affiliated teaching hospitals, is a hub of research.

Graduate students at Brown work side-by-side with faculty who are leaders in their fields. The Open Graduate Programs project allows select Brown doctoral students to pursue a master’s degree in a secondary field.

Brown students are active learners. A large number of centers and institutes fuel their research . Study abroad programs and international collaborations reflect Brown’s commitment to promoting global learning .

Students passionate about public service turn to the Swearer Center for ways to take constructive action locally and around the world.

Learning is supported by a library system housing 6.8 million print items, plus a multitude of electronic resources and expanding digital archives .

The Career Development Center helps students plan for futures that make productive use of their academic achievements.

Other programs include Pre-College Programs for high school students ; and Undergraduate Summer Session , open to Brown and visiting undergraduates.

Brown also offers free, non-credit, online courses open to learners from around the world. These courses, offered in partnership with EdX , develop students’ knowledge and understanding of the liberal arts and sciences while providing a window into Brown’s exceptional learning environment.

Open learning follows in the spirit of the Brown mission to “serve the community, the nation, and the world by discovering, communicating, and preserving knowledge and understanding in a spirit of free inquiry.”

Guided by the Plan for Academic Enrichment , Brown continues to set new goals for distinction in education. The July 2010 formation of the School of Engineering and the launch of a School of Public Health in 2013 are direct results of these efforts.

Lingnan University ( simplified Chinese : 岭南大学; traditional Chinese : 嶺南大學; pinyin : Lǐngnán Dàxué) in Canton , Kwangtung Province, China (now Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, People’s Republic of China), was a private university established by a group of American missionaries in 1888. At its founding it was named Canton Christian College (格致書院).

Lingnan University was incorporated into Chung Shan University (now Sun Yat-sen University) in 1953. Members of the university fled to Hong Kong and founded the Lingnan School in Wan Chai in 1967, which was relocated to Tuen Mun in the mid-1990s and renamed Lingnan University in 1999.

Sun Yat-sen University is a comprehensive university founded by Dr. Sun Yat-sen in 1924. In the Times Higher Education Ranking 2011-2012, it was ranked sixth among all Chinese universities and first in South China. [1]

Originated from Lingnan University, a private university in the early 20th century, Lingnan (University) College was reestablished in 1988 within Sun Yat-sen University.

The university relocated several times during its existence. It moved to Macau , then a Portuguese colony, in 1900 to escape the repressive measures implemented by the ruling Qing Dynasty of China. In 1903, the Chinese name was changed to 嶺南學堂 in Macau . It moved back to Canton in 1904.

In 1906, the University of Pennsylvania ‘s Christian Association sent University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine graduate, Josiah McCracken , to Canton to determine whether it would be feasible to take over the medical department of the Canton Christian College. McCracken reported that he thought the organization should follow through and in 1907 the school was renamed “The University Medical School in Canton, China,” and he became its president from 1907 to 1913. In 1913, the Christian Association ended the affiliation with the Canton Christian College and Josiah McCracken helped start a new medical school at St. John’s University in Shanghai. [2]

In 1916, the Chinese name was changed again, to 嶺南大學, as the college expanded to become a university. In 1927, management of the university passed into Chinese hands, and the English name was changed to Lingnan University, the transliteration of the school’s Chinese name. Dr. Chung Wing Kwong became the first Chinese principal of the University. On July 23, 1930, the property of the Canton Medical Missionary Society and Hospital were transferred to the Board of Directors at Lingnan University. [3] A branch in Hainan with an emphasis on agricultural studies was founded in 1933.

The Hackett Medical College for Women (夏葛女子醫學院, the first medical college for women in China ) and its affiliated hospital known as David Gregg Hospital for Women and Children (Chinese name is 柔濟醫院), [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] located in Guangzhou, China, were parts of a medical center that was founded by female medical missionary Dr. Mary H. Fulton (1854-1927). Dr. Fulton was sent by the Foreign Missions Board of the Presbyterian Church (USA) , with the support of the Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church of Brooklyn, New York, of which David Gregg was pastor [10] [11] The College was dedicated in 1902 and offered a four-year medical curriculum. At the end of 1932, the medical center was registered and put under the control of the Chinese government. Furthermore, it affiliated with Guangzhou Hospital and Lingnan University to form the Sun Yat-Sen Medical College in 1936. [12]

During the 1930s and 40s, the university was forced to move several times as Japanese armies advanced across China. In 1937, it relocated to Hong Kong as the Japanese occupied Canton, and in 1942, to Kukong (now Shaoguan) in northern Kwangtung Province , as the Japanese occupied Hong Kong. After World War II, the university was finally able to return to Canton.

In 1953, Lingnan University was incorporated into Chung Shan University (now Sun Yat-sen University). Members of the university who fled from communist rule to Hong Kong founded the Lingnan College in Hong Kong to continue the spirit of the university in 1967. That college became Hong Kong’s Lingnan University in 1999.

Lingnan International Advisory Board[ edit ]

The Lingnan International Advisory Board consists of international and Chinese business leaders and academic leaders from global business schools. The Board will meet once a year and the role of the Board will be: to provide advice on strategic development of Lingnan, to provide insights and share views about future directions of global business education, and to help build and strengthen strategic relations between Lingnan and business enterprises, and between Lingnan and top business schools in Asia, Europe and North America.

      The Lingnan MBA program’s mission is "Education for Service" and our commitment is to develop international business leaders. Lingnan MBA students, faculty and staff advocate the values of being "Ethical, Pragmatic, Enterprising, Tolerant and Strategically-Minded". Our vision is "to become one of the foremost business schools in China and participate effectively with first-tier business schools in the Asia Pacific regions".

      The Lingnan International MBA program was launched in 1999 and developed in conjunction with MIT Sloan School of Management. All courses are taught in English and MIT Sloan MBA curriculum and teaching methods have been adopted in the program.. The International MBA program has both Full-time (2 years) and Part-time (3 years) options.

      International MBA students will be awarded the Master of Business Administration degree of Sun Yat-sen University and MIT certification upon graduation which requires successful completion of courses and successfully passing their thesis defense.

      Lingnan College of Sun Yat-sen University

      Lingnan College of Sun Yat-sen University was named after Lingnan University, which was first founded in Guangzhou in 1888. By 1930s, Lingnan University had enjoyed prestigious reputation both at home and abroad, with academic links with many famous universities worldwide. In 1952, as a result of the reorganization of all the universities in China, departments of Lingnan University were incorporated into Sun Yat-sen University and other universities. In December 1987, Lingnan College of Sun Yat-sen University was established with the approval of the Ministry of Education of China.

      To be a leading business school with international recognition, Lingnan College has constantly dedicated to developing higher education in Theoretical Economics, Applied Economics and Business Management. In business management education, Lingnan College has developed extensive cooperation with prestigious business schools all around the world-with MIT Sloan School of Management on International MBA Program in 1999, with Carlson School of Management of University of Minnesota on Chinese EMBA (CHEMBA) Program in 2001, with University of California at Berkeley on Healthcare EMBA (h-EMBA) Program in 2003 and with EM-LYON and Lyon 3 on a French diploma of international commerce (DESS) program. These partnerships provide enormous education resources for Lingnan College’s business education.

      The following is a list of the most extreme and hazardous airports from in the world. They’re considered as such due to proximity to mountain peaks, cliff faces, crowded beaches, main roads or other non conventional features

      1. Princess Juliana Airport, Saint Martin – This international airport serves the Dutch part of the island of Saint Martin. Due to a short runway and being extremely close to the shore, the airport is known for having giant jets fly over Maho Beach just 10-20 meters over the heads of the tourists laying on the beach, resulting in amazing photos

      2. Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport, Saba Island – This airport is located on Saba island in the Caribbeans. It is located on one side by high hills and at both runway ends cliffs drop into the sea. Additionally, the runway at the airport is relatively short (400m) which creates a slightly higher risk for landing and takeoff. Experienced pilots talk about it as one of the most dangerous airports in the world. The airport is officially closed to traffic but regional airline propeller aircraft are able to land there under special waivers

      3. Madeira Airport, Madeira Island – Located on the island of Madeira (Portugal), this international airport has a short runway (just 1,400 meters before it was doubled in 2003) and is surrounded by ocean from the one side and high mountains from another. The new-built part of the airport is situated on a series of 180 columns, each about 70m tall

      4. Lukla Airport, Nepal – A small airport in the town of Lukla, Nepal. It was rated as the most dangerous airport in 2010 by the History channel. It is famous for being the place where most people start the climb to mount Everest. Situated at a height of 2900 meters, its landing strip has a high mountain on one end and a thousand meter drop on the other

      5. Courchevel Airport, France – This airport is located in, Courchevel, a ski area in the French Alps. The airport has a very short runway of only 525 m (1,722 ft) and a gradient of 18.5%! The runway has no instrument approach procedures, thus making landing in fog and low clouds almost impossible

      6. Barra Airport, Barra – A short-runway international airport situated in the wide shallow bay in the island of Barra, Scotland. The airport is unique, being the only one in the world where scheduled flights use a beach as the runway. The beach is set out with three runways in a triangle, marked by permanent wooden poles at their ends which almost always allows the Twin Otters planes to land into the wind. At high tide these runways are under the sea: flight times vary with the tide. Emergency flights occasionally operate at night from the airport, with vehicle lights used to illuminate the runway and reflective strips laid on to the beach

      7. Ice Runway, Antartica – The Ice Runway is the principal runway for the US Antarctic Program during the summer Antarctic field season due to its proximity to McMurdo Station. This runway is capable of handling giant planes. The annual sea-ice runway is constructed at the start of each season and is used until early December when the sea ice begins to break up. Pilots landing cargo aircraft on the sea ice runway report that the surface is stable, like landing on concrete

      8. Gibraltar Airport, Gibraltar – An international airport that serves the British overseas territory of Gibraltar. The unique feature in this airport is that the main landing strip of the planes passes through the main street of the city. Vehicles are made to stop every time an aircraft lands or takes off

      9. Toncontín International Airport, Honduras A civil and military airport that serves Tegucigalpa, Honduras. The History Channel program Most Extreme Airports ranks it as the second most dangerous airport in the world. The runway is situated in a valley surrounded by mountains and there’s only one way in and one way out for the planes, which increases the risk dramatically. Despite these high-risk factors, planes as large as Boeing 757’s land at the airport on a daily basis

      10. Gustaf III (St Bart) Airport, Saint Barthélemy – Located on the Caribbean island of Saint Barthélemy, this airport provides pilots and passengers alike with some fairly grave dangers. The corridor in which the runway has been built is incredibly narrow, and planes come frighteningly close to hitting the slopes of the adjacent upland area, or plummeting into the ocean. There are warning signs asking the careless people not to take sun bathes near the runway

      • Entry Requirements

        Children are able to join Kings Monkton at any age if there are places available.

        Foundation children are assessed informally, usually when they spend a day at the school prior to joining.

        Children from aged 7+ are sometimes required to sit an entrance test, normally in English, Maths and Reasoning, before a place is offered.

        Senior school children looking for Scholarships are required to sit an exam which will usually take place in the Spring Term. The test normally comprises Reasoning, English and Maths.

        Kings Monkton hosts several open days throughout the year, where we can showcase the best learning and achievement, and introduce parents and pupils to the inviting community spirit of the school.

        I would like to welcome potential parents and pupils into our school to see the school through our working day. You will get the opportunity to experience the unique culture and ethos that makes Kings Monkton so special, and understand why we are seen as one of the most outstanding schools in Wales who cares for, supports and encourages the best in your child.

        Tea and coffee will be available as well as an opportunity to meet the Principal and staff and discuss your child’s future education and how we can meet their needs, whether they are 2 years old or entering Post 16 for A Levels.

        The school fees are available from the Main Office on request. The fee structure is agreed by the Board of Governors and undergoes an Annual Review in consultation with the Parent Board.

        Our preferred method of payment is via direct debit. Direct debits can be made annually, termly or monthly. You can specify your preferred payment plan. Direct debits will be taken at the beginning of the Academic Year or Term, or on your specified payment date.

        Scholarships, worth up to 20% of fees, are available at 7+, 11+ and 16+. Scholarships at 11+ are based on the school’s scholarship examination which is held in January each year; the 16+ scholarship is awarded on GCSE results and interview.

        Notice Periods
        When your child leaves the school, you must give one full terms written notice to the school office otherwise you will be liable to pay for one terms fees.

        After School Club
        Times strictly from 3.30pm – 6.00pm

        Charged at £2.25 per half hour (or part)

        Collection past 6pm will incur a penalty charge of £15 per 15 minutes (or part)

        Do you take pupils of all ages?
        Kings Monkton School is an independent school for pupils aged 3 to 18.

        Do you have spaces currently available?
        Yes, in some year groups. Please email  [email protected]  to enquire

        What are your class sizes?
        We aim to have no more than 15 pupils per class

        Is there an entrance exam?
        Pupils wishing to apply for bursaries and scholarships are required to sit an entrance exam, which take place annually in either January or February. Outside of this, we welcome pupils of all abilities and aptitudes and try to resist from making pupils sit entrance exams.

        How much is the school uniform?
        Prices for school uniform can be found in our parent handbooks here.

        If my child has left one school mid-way through the term, how do you manage the transition?
        We liaise closely with all previous schools and make sure that all coursework and results are sent to Kings Monkton. We also assess, subject by subject what the pupil’s specific needs are and what topics they may need extra help with. Our staff are always happy to give extra time to pupils who need more input to bring them up to date with the subjects we teach.

        Do you cater for children with special educational needs?
        Kings Monkton has a dedicated special educational needs coordinator and all staff are highly experienced in teaching young people with a range of needs.

        Do you offer scholarships?
        Yes, we offer annual scholarships at 7+, 11+ and 13+

        Is there a minibus service?
        Yes, we have several minibus routes which serve a large area of Cardiff and the surrounds. Prices for minibus use are currently £18 per week, payable on invoice. Routes are flexible and may be subject to change to accommodate pupils.

        What are the school’s opening hours?
        The school opens at 8am and closes at 6pm

        When can we visit?
        We host several open days throughout the year, but are happy to organise individual visits at a mutually convenient time. We also offer taster days for children to attend before they start full time. If you’d like to arrange a visit please get in touch.

      • Admissions Policy

        Kings Monkton School is a mainstream school that prides itself on its inclusive nature. We do not have an Admissions Examination as our belief and experience shows us that once children feel safe, secure and happy they will excel in education. However, we are a school with excellent academic success and recognise that we cannot always meet the educational needs of all children.

        Admissions are made on an individual basis and at the Principal’s discretion. Criteria used to assess whether a child is admitted to our school includes:

        • Whether the school can meet the needs of that individual pupil.
        • The structure and make up of our current cohort and class which that pupil will enter.
        • The applicant is of the appropriate age and sufficient maturity.
        • The School is able to provide adequately for any special educational needs the applicant may have following an assessment of the pupil by the Additional Learning Needs Coordinator.
        • The School, having made reasonable adjustment, has the capacity to cope with any disability the applicant may have.
        • Fees (if applicable) at the present school have been paid.

        General Guidance to Entrance

        Prospective Pupils for entry into Foundation and Reception

         Children entering Foundation generally join us in the September following their third birthday and enter Reception in the September following their fourth birthday. Children are invited in for a taster visit prior to entry to ensure that they are happy and settled.

        Prospective Pupils for the Infant Department, Years 1 and 2

        Pupils join the School in their chronological year group. This means that those aged 5 on 1st September in the year of entry enter Year 1, whilst those aged 6 on 1st September enter Year 2.

        Pupils are invited for a taster session during which they will spend time in the classroom with the teacher and other pupils. To support the transition a report will be sought from the pupil’s current or previous school.

        All children in the Primary School from Year 1 to Year 6 will sit a PIPS test throughout the year. This is not an entrance examination, but a means of measuring the children’s literacy, numeracy and non-verbal skills so that we can tailor our teaching to their learning needs.

        Prospective Pupils for the Junior Section, Years 3-6

        If a place is available (or, in the case of a waiting list, as soon as a place becomes available) prospective pupils are invited in for a taster session to meet the children and staff in their classroom.

         Prospective Pupils for the Senior Section, Years 7-11

        At Year 7, year groups expand from one to two tutor groups. Pupils again can have a taster day to settle into their class and meet the other pupils and staff. Children with additional learning needs will meet with the Additional Learning Needs Coordinator for Secondary School to assess how we can meet their learning needs and ensure a smooth transition into our school.

        All children in the Secondary School from Year 7 to Year 11 will sit both a MidYis and YELLIS test at the start of the key stage. This is not an entrance examination, but a means of measuring the pupil’s literacy, numeracy and non-verbal skills so that we can tailor our teaching to their learning needs.

        Prospective Students for GCSE Freshstart

        There are no entry requirements for GCSE Freshstart and pupils can join Year 10 or Year 11 classes to have a tailor made curriculum to ensure they reach the GCSE grades they need to move on in their education.

        Prospective Students for the Sixth Form, Years 12-13

        Kings Monkton School does not set a sixth form entrance examination, but requires of applicants (whether internal or external) the following basic minimum for entry to the sixth form:

        1. Minimum 5 C grades at GCSE;
        2. A current school report which evidences that the student has a positive and focussed attitude to study and school life.

      The Chesterfield County School Board is a five-member board elected by district to serve staggered four-year terms. All five seats were on the ballot in 2015. The general election was held on November 3, 2015. The next scheduled election for all five seats is 2019.

      Voters in Midlothian will choose one of five candidates as their new Chesterfield County School Board member on Tuesday. But all 74 precincts across the rest of county will also be open because of the special election for sheriff that will only have one name — Karl Leonard — on the ballot.

      Bob Olsen, Debra Girvin, Bill Colgate, Gary Powers Jr. and Dianne Mallory-Coble have spent the past three months courting voters in the Midlothian District. In a special election where turnout is likely to be low, every vote will carry more weight.

      There are 46,400 registered Midlothian voters, but Chesterfield Registrar Larry Haake said he would be surprised if 10 percent of them cast ballots on Tuesday.

      Only 23 percent of Chesterfield County voters showed up for the last regularly scheduled School Board election in 2011. “Look how dismal the turnout was for the regular election,” Haake said.

      If Haake is right, the five candidates are working to collect the most votes out of a pool of at most 4,640.

      Spending in the School Board campaign has been relatively low. Campaign finance reports filed last week showed that Colgate and Olsen are mostly bankrolling their own campaigns, with Olsen raising $570 and Colgate reporting just $10 in contributions. Powers has raised $7,735 from 51 contributors; Girvin raised $4,868 from 39 contributors; Mallory-Coble raised $2,461 from eight contributors.

      Leonard, who has been acting sheriff since Feb. 1 after the retirement of Dennis S. Proffitt, is all but assured to be the county’s next elected sheriff. His only competition, Richmond sheriff’s Maj. Jerry Baldwin, conceded the race in January at a Republican Party convention.

      Haake said the special election is expected to cost about $150,000.

      “Think for a minute if there were no School Board election,” Haake said. “We’d still be running a special election for sheriff with one name on the ballot. I think the average citizen would look at that and think, ‘Why?’ ”

      A bill passed by both houses in the Virginia General Assembly would make it more likely that such elections are delayed until the next regularly scheduled contest.

      The polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Results will be posted online on the Chesterfield registrar’s website.

      About Modern International School, Oman (MISO).

      Welcome to Modern International School, Oman!  We are a privately owned international school, licensed by the Ministry of Education of Oman. The school originally started in April 2013 and followed the CBSE-I curriculum. In 2017 the CBSE-I curriculum was no longer recognized by the Ministry of Education in Oman and the owners of the school decided to adopt an American curriculum.


      A new purpose built facility was also established and the school’s premises shifted to an adjacent suburb. MISO opened its doors again on the 03 September 2017. The school is built on a 13 000 square meter plot and is a multi-story, educational facility. In the 2018/19 year, we will implement the Cambridge curriculum (Primary, Lower Secondary and IGCSE) alongside Arabic Language, Islamic Studies, Social Studies, Arabic Second Language and French. The school falls under the supervision of the Ministry of Education, Sultanate of Oman.  We are located in the prime area of Al-Athaiba in Muscat. Currently, we have learners from Kindergarten to Grade eight (8). Our student roll stands at 385 learners. We are experiencing rapid growth for our 2018/19 academic year.       The day for the KG children is from 07h30 to 13h00.The children can arrive at 07h15 for playtime. Children arriving at school earlier will have to remain outside until an assistant or teacher arrives. No student may be left alone in the corridors or school playground before 07h00.

      CHILD SAFEGUARDING
      A day at Modern International School is filled with experiences that will help your child to ‘learn for life’ in a supportive and stimulating environment.
      Modern International School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the safety of the children under its care.
      To achieve this, we put in place a number of key processes and methods which we ask all staff and parents to recognize and engage with.
      All members of staff undergo child protection screening appropriate to their post. This includes, but is not limited to checks with past employers. A strict code of conduct with regards to teachers treatment of learners is also firmly put in place to ensure that they are fully aware of the expectations from both the school and its parents.
      We expect parents and carers at home to work with us in a cordial home-school environment.
      The parent community is expected to understand and adhere to our school timings – the hours we are open and when we close; the appropriate students uniform & personal hygiene obligations; updating child’s medical information; ensure safe pick-up and drop transport facility for the child and the like.

      School Hours

      Arrival and Departure by school bus
      If you wish to have your children bussed to and from school, kindly make arrangements with our Registrar and Administration staff at the school office. Bus children will leave at 14h00.

      Collecting your child before the end of the school day
      If you wish to pick up your child earlier than the official departure time, please fill out a Permission Form from Reception. A school representative will collect your child from the reception. Parents are expected to wait in the reception area.

      Parent /Teacher Communication
      All students have a communication book into which parents and teachers will write notes to communicate with each other. Students also record homework tasks in this book. Please check this book daily and sign it to show the teacher that you have read it. Throughout the year there are several scheduled Parent/Teacher conferences. Dates of these conferences will be communicated to you. The progress or lack of progress of the student will be discussed in these meetings.
      The following avenues for communication between parents and school are in place:

      • Various reporting formats, including parent/student/teacher conferences

      • SMS messages to parents advising of important event

      Health and Absence from School
      It is normal for students to have illnesses at school. Students displaying signs of high fever must be kept at home. To avoid the spreading of germs, kindly teach your child how to use a tissue to blow his/her nose, how to cover his/her mouth when coughing or sneezing, how to wash his/her hands thoroughly and how to use the toilet independently. Send a note or phone the school (24138842) to inform the school of any absence. If the student is out of school for more than two days, please notify the school beforehand. Our school nurse is available, if your child has any special health needs.

      Snack and Meals
      Students are required to bring a healthy snack packed in a lunch box to school every day. Nutritious food is important to support the intellectual development of your child. Small partitions of dried or fresh fruit, vegetables, salads, yoghurt, sandwiches, meat, cheese, rice and pasta will meet your child’s energy requirements. Please include a water bottle every day. Please do not send the following foods: sweets, chocolate, potato crisps, french fries, soft drinks, cakes, pizza, chewing gum or flavored milk drinks. For health and safety reasons, peanuts are not allowed in school. If your child is allergic to any foods, please inform the Class Teacher promptly.

      Uniform & Appearance
      All pupils at MISO are expected to wear the correct school uniform. Failure to do so may result in your child being sent home from school.

      School uniform
      KG children have a compulsory uniform. Boys will wear a pair of navy blue pants and a white t-shirt with the Modern International School logo on it. Girls will wear a navy tartan “skorts” with navy tights and a white t-shirt. This can be purchased from the uniform shop in the administration department. Please send your child to school with sports shoes/trainers to avoid injuries at playtime. Uniform material is available from Mehdi Stores.

      Primary Girl’s Uniform
      • Navy blue pinafore with navy blue trousers
      • White long sleeved shirt or white polo shirt
      • Navy blue zip up jacket with the School Logo (optional, purchased from School Stores)
      • Headscarf – white or navy blue 
      • Footwear – black, closed toe shoes with rubber soles. No heeled shoes and no trainers.
      • A cap for outdoor play

      Boy’s Uniform
      Navy blue trousers
      • White shirt or white polo shirt
      • Navy blue zip up jacket with the School Logo (optional, purchased from School Stores)
      • Footwear – black, closed toe shoes with rubber soles. No trainers or football boots.
      • A cap for outdoor play
      NB! Omani boys may wear either school uniform or National dress – white dishdasha and kumma.

      P.E Kit (whole school)
      Both boys and girls need to wear the following for P.E lessons.
      • Coloured House t-shirt (Purchased from School Stores)
      • Navy blue shorts or tracksuit trousers (Can be purchased from School Stores)
      • Suitable sports trainers – correctly fitting, rubber soled. No football boots

      General Appearance
      Clothing with logos or slogans are not permitted at school. Exaggerated, provocative, unusual or colored hair styles / footwear / jewellery / are not considered appropriate for school and will not be accepted. Failure to comply with the school rules may result in your child being sent home from school.

      Hair:
      Hair should be kept neat and brushed well off the face. Girls’ long hair is to be tied back at all times. Boys’ hair should always be kept short, above the collar.
      Make-Up:
      Nail varnish and make-up is not allowed and may not be worn.
      Jewellery:
      Pupils may wear a watch to school. Girls with pierced ears may wear one pair of small stud/sleeper earrings. All other pierced jewellery is not accepted. The school is not responsible for jewellery items misplaced or lost at school. All watches and earrings must be removed before the pupils can take part in P.E lessons. Please do not allow your child to wear earrings to school on P.E days if they cannot remove their earrings themselves. 

      School Bags
      Children should bring their books to school in a suitable bag. It must be a bag that can be worn on their back and must be suitable to carry school books without damaging them. All children including Grade 1 are expected to carry their own belongings so please ensure their bags are not too heavy.

      General Dress Code for Parents and Visitors
      At MISO, all parents and visitors are kindly asked to wear clothing which complies with that suitable within Oman. Shorts above the knee, tops that do not cover shoulders and tight fitting clothing are inappropriate and may cause offence. Especially during the month of Ramadan, we ask that visitors dress conservatively and cover up as much as possible.

      Communication and Language
      We will be encouraging children to develop their spoken language through play, story-telling, conversation and song. They will learn to take turns in conversations and develop their listening skills through a range of games and activities. Acquisition of a second and possibly third language takes time and effort. For this reason we encourage students to enrich their vocabulary banks through reading. The library is stocked with English, Arabic and French books to motivate our students to read.

      After-school Activities
      At MISO we encourage the role that extra-curricular activities play at a school. Each year a variety of different after school activities are offered to our pupils. These are determined by the availability of teachers to organize a particular activity.  Every effort is made to provide pupils with the activity of their choice, however some activities are very popular in which case we will operate a waiting list system. Pupils are expected to attend all sessions of their activity for the full period it is offered as holding a place but not attending may cause someone else from missing out.
